About ARUSHI
Tell us about your academic journey and what led you to Academy.
My career began in the world of journalism, where I learnt to chase stories, meet deadlines, and write with clarity and purpose. But as digital platforms evolved, so did my curiosity. I found myself increasingly drawn to not just what we say, but how, where, and why we say it. That natural shift led me into the world of content and social media marketing, and ultimately to the MSc in Strategic Digital Marketing at Aston Business School and now, the Tribera Academy.
What sparked your interest in the creative marketing industry?
I love how the right idea, done well, can catch people's attention, change how they think, and get them talking. Social media really opened my eyes to how powerful instant storytelling can be, it gave my creative side the perfect place to shine. What keeps me excited about creative marketing is making every piece of content matter. I get energised by digging into a project, figuring out what makes people tick, and creating stuff that's both smart and strategic. That blend of emotion, insight, and purpose is what keeps pulling me back in.
What made you choose to build your career in Birmingham's creative scene?
Why not Birmingham? Sure, it can get crazy, but I'm from Delhi, India, and it matches that energy perfectly. There's something about Birmingham I haven't found anywhere else. It's young, diverse, and completely unafraid to be creative. From the street art covering the walls to all the startups popping up, everything here has a story to tell. I wanted to jump into that story and build my UK career right in the middle of it all.
What's been your most valuable experience during the programme so far?
The academy totally changed how I see marketing in the real world. Everything we learned at university was just scratching the surface. Real client briefs aren't clean and simple – they're messy puzzles you have to figure out with creativity and smart thinking. I got to actually know and learn all the AI tools that agencies work with every day, and it hit me that this industry is way more about being quick, strategic, and rolling with the punches than any textbook ever taught me. This is marketing in the real world, it's fast, it runs on facts and data, and it's all about getting stuff done.
Where do you see yourself in 2-3 years?
I’m still exploring the full scope of marketing, but I know where I’m headed. I’m most drawn to social media and content marketing, spaces where creativity meets real-time connection. Over time, I’ve also learned how SEO isn't just about rankings; it’s what quietly holds the whole digital ecosystem together. That mix of creative expression and strategic depth is what excites me.
Right now, I’m keen to start at a fast-paced agency where I can build strong fundamentals, experiment, and learn across brands. Eventually, I hope to grow into roles with global companies like Google, LVMH, Gucci, or Chanel, brands that value thoughtful storytelling and smart strategy. I’m in it for the learning, the challenges, and the chance to do work that grows with me.
Which areas of marketing are you most passionate about?
I'm developing skills in content planning, audience engagement, platform trends, SEO writing, and analytics. I’m also learning to think more strategically and creatively. Lately, I’ve been focusing on SEO best practices and exploring AI tools, especially prompt engineering – to create smarter, more effective content.
Share something interesting or unexpected about yourself.
I started over in my mid 30s – new country, second master’s, brand-new career. I’ve written stories on tight deadlines, interviewed Bollywood stars, and once hammered out a feature with just 1% phone battery and a pack of biscuits. Life’s tossed me plenty of challenges, and I’ve rebuilt myself more times than I can count. If that’s not resilience, I don’t know what is. No fuss, no drama – just steady grit and getting the job done.
Academy Experience
The integrated campaign
I worked on a sustainability-driven campaign for Yugo student accommodation, titled "YuSave" an initiative that rewarded students for eco-friendly actions with redeemable points. Our TikTok-style video campaign followed a ‘day-in-the-life’ concept to inspire behavioural change in a fun, engaging format.
Academy Experience
Department rotation highlights
Every rotation was a crash course in creativity and collaboration:
Client Services
I learned how to unpack a brief, extract meaningful audience insights, and communicate with clarity, whether in meetings or emails. It was also my first real exposure to client-facing work and the pace of agency life.
Social Media
This was all about channel-specific storytelling. I got hands-on with the Sprout Social app to manage content calendars, streamline publishing, and monitor performance. I also worked on generating creative concepts, organising content, and crafting static posts that felt on-brand and engaging.
Creative
Here, I saw how ideas come to life. From storyboarding to designing assets for social, I learned how to translate a brand’s voice and tone into content that actually connects. It gave me a behind-the-scenes look at how creative teams work in sync with strategy, fast, focused, and purposeful.
Digital PR
This rotation helped me understand how to position stories for coverage. I learned the importance of timing, relevance, and tailoring outreach to the right media contacts. From crafting pitches to identifying angles that resonate, it taught me how PR fits into the wider content and brand ecosystem.
