"Creating content that leaves a bold print in your mind"

About nathan

  • What was the route that brought you to Academy by Tribera?

My journey started with art, which has always been a passion of mine. From selling my own work to studying Art, Media and Product Design at A-level, creativity has always been at the centre of my life. The natural next step seemed to be studying Graphic Design at Nottingham Trent University. However, after starting the course, I realised it felt too similar to what I had already been doing. While I knew a creative career was right for me, I wanted to develop a broader understanding of the marketing industry too. That led me to transfer to Birmingham City University to study Digital Marketing, which has allowed me to build on my creative background while developing strategic, analytical and commercial skills. Tribera Academy felt like the perfect next step because it gave me the opportunity to put my university learning into practice, explore the role of AI in modern marketing and gain more insight into how the industry really works.

  • What is it about the creative marketing world that genuinely pulls you in?

What interests me most about marketing is the psychology behind it and understanding what makes audiences connect with brands. For my dissertation, I researched how brands that have alienated their customers can rebuild consumer trust, particularly within the music and entertainment industry, which is the sector I'd ultimately like to work in as a digital marketer. What really excites me is seeing how a simple idea can evolve into a fully realised campaign through research, strategy and creative execution. Being able to take an idea from concept to reality and see the impact it has on an audience is what draws me to marketing.

  • Why do you want to build your career here in Birmingham?

I've lived in Birmingham all my life, so it can be frustrating seeing first hand how much the city has to offer and how often it gets overlooked. I think it's important that we continue to support the city's creative community rather than feeling that success can only be found elsewhere e.g London, Manchester. Birmingham has a unique identity and so much creative talent which makes it an exciting place to start a career. For me, building my career here is about contributing to a city that has shaped who I am. I'd love to be part of helping Birmingham's creative scene continue to grow, while developing my own skills alongside other talented people.

  • Where do you want your career to head over the next couple of years?

At the moment I’m applying for junior creative roles but over the next few years I’d love to work towards becoming a digital marketing executive, managing my own campaigns and creating content that leaves a print on people's minds. I’d love to work in house as I think I’d enjoy getting involved in all stages of the process and focusing on building a brand up over a period of time.

  • What is something about you that has nothing to do with marketing?

I’m really good at both Impressions and Accents. I think it stems from my love of drama at school and fully stepping into characters that I played. The impression that get the most laughs out of people is probably Kim Woodburn or any politician.

How has working with AI changed the way you think and work?

working with ai

It was really useful to get feedback from an AI persona I created to test out my ideas. I never considered how much more efficient it would be to use AI for this rather than solely just focus groups/surveys because the responses were so much more detailed. Whilst in most cases I preferred my ideas to the generated ones, these AI tools helped me refine my ideas and showed me exactly how to implement them. I now have a new perspective on how I can use AI to assist me in my work and improve the speed of my workflow.

Where do you think you will thrive?

strengths and focus

I think my strengths definitely sit within strategy and creative as I feel they give me the broadest scope to showcase my ideas and creativity. While It was interesting and beneficial to learn about analytics, I don't think this area aligns with my interests and ambitions as much as strategy and creative do.
